Chris,
You may want to check out the smaller Balmar alternators. The 120 A
alternator has two pulleys and that would be a pain to accommodate.
The large alternators also take a more engine power. Maybe Yanmar
could tell you if it is OK or too much load for your engine.
I installed a 70-80 (70 series, 80 A) alternator. It fits well and
works well. If I let the batteries drop to near 12v, and run the
engine at about 1800 rpm, I can replace an indicated 40+ Ahr in just
one hour. Leave the dock with batteries fully charged, run the motor
one hour a day, and you'll have hot water and plenty of juice for a
week. We are power misers, don't charge until the third day, and we're
still good for a week.
