Guys et.al.

I am a southern lake sailor, for what it's worth, I have my boat pulled once
a year and pressure washed. Gets rid of the hair and then I take digital
pics. of the hull. Gives you an idea of where the hull paint is and a long
term record of the hull condition. I have all the pics. since 1999 and when
it's sale time there won't be that much to discover when you need a survey
or for the insurance company when you want to change brands. My marina also
takes pics at my request and has a record of the hull condition. Not a big
deal till you need it. Last bottom paint with Pettit was 1250.oo in 2007 and
the third paint event for this boat.

Bruce,
I sanded to the gel coat a year ago and I would say it was a 50 hour,
difficult and dirty job - even though I used a good Boch sander with dust
collector and quality sanding disks. We fixed many small blisters and then
applied 4 coats of Petit Interlux 2000 barrier coat before 2 coats of
Trinidad SR bottom paint. The racing performance this past year was much
better.
Based upon what I paid for a FG man to do the blisters and some others to
help with the sanding, I think 2.7k is reasonable, especially if you include

the pull, launch, and boatyard charges -- I was 11 days in a do it yourself
boatyard in FL. Rollie #182 Charlotte Harbor, FL

Has anyone paid to have their hull sanded and prepped for paint lately? If
so, I'm curious what you were charged. Our marina quoted a price of $2,750
to sand ours and that did not include the rudder and keel. Granted there
were a few layers of paint but the price seemed especially. I decided to do
the job myself. It was a lot of work and crawling around under the boat but
I sanded it clean - except the keel - and was happy to save the money.
