Holly ......... I'm the former owner of 'AROBAN' 1995 C320 #222 and had to replace my exhaust elbow at approx 400 hours. I had the Perkins engine and did the work myself. If you're handy with tools, it's not a difficult job. Some of the working clearances are tight but manageable. If you have a problem loosening the nuts or bolts holding the exhaust elbow to the manifold, spray them with a penetrating oil and tap them a few times. You may need to wait a few hours or the next day, but they'll eventually come loose. Use an anti-seize compound on the threads when you replace them. You may also need to wrestle with the exhaust hose between the elbow and the muffler as it's quite stiff. I had to remove the screws holding down the muffler allowing it to move aft and thereby freeing up the exhaust hose a bit. If your exhaust elbow is anything like mine, you'll be amazed at the amount of salt and carbon build-up. Mine was beyond cleaning out but you might get lucky. Be sure to use a new gasket.

> I recently had my mechanic replace my salt water pump and change the oil and filters and just check the engine out. He felt there was "excessive" back pressure and thought I my exhaust elbow needed cleaning or a I needed a new exhaust elbow. Does this sound like the culprit and how hard is it to clean out or replace. I was thinking of trying to do this myself, having way more time than $. I have a 1995 320 with a with a Westerbeke 30 engine. Any info will be appreciated.Holly"HONU"
