[C320-list] Repowering update and anti-siphon height?

Hi folks,

Re-powering is almost complete and as soon as we¹re done I¹ll post info and
pictures on the Website, and see if Mainsheet are interested in a write up.

The Volvo D1-30 is in place and looks great, it is a bit smaller than the
old Perkins, and access is superb, but there have been a few additional
unanticipated issues along the way:

1. I needed to get the engine mounts cut down and re-glassed a couple of
inches lower as the Volvo sat too high on the existing bed rails. An extra
$600 I wasn¹t expecting, but they have done an excellent job.
2. The prop shaft needs cutting down a bit as I am installing a drive saver
coupling, and the flex of fold prop couldn¹t be re-pitched so I needed to
buy new blades for it ($950)!
3. The exhaust hose needed replacing to a wider bore and the Water muffler
box needed adaptors for the inlet and outlet glassing in to fit the Volvo
exhaust outlet and new diameter water hose. At the same time I have had new
hoses and a larger raw water filter installed to improve the flow into the
engine.

One thing my mechanic has suggested is raising the anti-siphon loop higher
in the boat as where it is it is only about 4 1/2² above the actual exhaust
outlet. This would involve cutting holes in the rear engine cover, for the
pipes and mounting it in the rear cabin, and then manufacturing a cosmetic
cover-up for it. I can see the rationale but wonder if it is really
necessary as it is a lot of extra work, and the exhaust outlet is above the
water line. I would value other owners thoughts, and also to know if anyone
else has made this mod?

More news soon on the first fire up and sea trials!

Cheers
