[C320-list] Yanmar mixing elbow assembly

Geez, it is hot out,
 
Does anyone know if there is a recommended thread sealant for the threaded connector joint between the mixing elbow and exhaust take off? The new joint looks stainless but draws a magnet well, alloy? The thread is left hand on one end and right on the other. Any thoughts on why, other than to match the mating cast pieces.
