I had a problem with my 4000 not keeping a proper course all of a sudden. I removed & cleaned the wires from the control head, then reattached them. It's worked fine for 4 years since then.

Alan, did this just start happening or has it always done this? If a new
ssue, it may well be your fluxgate compass. If not, check to be sure the
P is not powered from a 12V source in the engine pod. It should have a
lean feed from a circuit breaker or fuse. If the current source for the AP
ncurs a sudden drop, the AP will reset just as though it was just turned
n.

Where is the fluxgate located on the early boats (hull 67, 1994)? Mine
utopilot acts up when the engine is turned on while the autopilot is
ngaged. The autopilot then just veers off course and begins to steer in
andom directions far off the set heading. The autopilot is not networked
ith any other device, so I'll start by looking at the fluxgate. Alan
