Avoid over tightening.  Have it just tight enough to hold the hatch open with a little resistence. Otherwise it will add to the stress cracks in the hatch near the hinge.

These is a small Allen set screw that increases the friction in the hinge. It is below the gray plastic cover along the hinge shaft (in the middle) that needs to be removed first by gently prying with a screw driver.  I recently adjusted mine.  It is very easy to do.
