Well I know I am going to get flamed for this...

First off I would agree - doggy life jackets should be a mandatory
thing.

However on "Dawn Treader" all pets are banned - it is an animal free
zone. It has been a major "pet" peeve for me. I did allow it in the
past, however not any more. Clean up, pet issues, added hassles, etc
etc. The Captain's (mine) orders.

As for MOB, we do MOB drills twice a year on "Dawn Treader" and on my
J22 with the Venturing Scouts. On the C320 we have the full up life
sling system. Life jackets are mandatory under sail - either
automatic inflating harnesses, type 3 or type 2 jackets. For any off
shore sailing, ocean or great lakes, and all night sailing it is
required everyone is tethered to the boat. Also, everyone has a
light, whistle, mirror and emergency strobe on their life jacket. All
tethers have a quick release if tangled with the boat and there is an
added emergency.

We saw someone drown from another boat last year who went over board.
Did not find his body for 19 days. It was horrible watching it all
unfold - and his wife and older kids having to handle the tragedy
first hand. Very long story, but it was preventable. When his body
did pop up another boater drowned. Very sad.

Regards,
Andrew
