Joe,
My diesel class said to always change your layover oil and filter at the beginning of the season. It supposedly builds up acid while laying over. What I don't do is change the filter at the end of the season, just the oil, can't see the oil laying in the filter causing any problem. Come spring I change both. I don't have an impeller puller and never found one to be necessary.

Subject: [C320-list] Engine Oil
I changed my engine oil and oil filter last October when I winterized
the boat. I checked the oil after I started the engine recently and
the oil was a very deep colored black, not the look of new oil. Is
this normal after a 6 month winter layover? Should I change it again?
Also, is it worth it to purchase an impeller puller? Does it work well?
Thank you for your thoughts.
Joe
