[C320-list] New owner today

I moved my boat from San Diego, CA to Seattle, WA last fall.  I researched this fully and what I arrived at and did was:

1.  Packaged the boat up myself and supervised the derigging and rerigging of the boat.
2.  Drained the tanks to lighten the load and reduce the risk of a spill inside the trucked boat.
3.  Hired a professional mover to do the transport.  I hired Joule Yacht Transport and was very happy with them.  I also contact Dudley Transport and received a competing quote from them.  Both firms have good references.  My transport was about $4000 from SD to SEA.  Decommissioning and Recommissioning was another $3000.  Very happy with the result.
4.  I foam and bubble wrapped everything that could possibly chafe during transport, including the boom and mast.  I used the "saran wrap" type of packaging to wrap up the mast, boom, anchor, hatches, and steering pedestal to ensure that road grit damage would be minimal.  I bought all of the packaging materials at Office Max.  I found them to be the cheapest in SD.
5.  The binacle did not have to be removed.  Although i did remove the compass as I understand that they can be damaged from road vibration.
6.  The boat needed a good cleaning when it arrived in Seattle, then a good wax, and good as new.
7.  We packaged the wrapped up boom in the main cabin and lashed it to the mast compression post that was also suitably wrapped.
8.  The mast and roller furler was wrapped in foam, then wrapped in carpet and mounted high on the trailer.  The lowboy trailer was specially configured for moving large boats.

There are some good websites that explain how effective large boat trucking works and what steps you can take to ensure a smooth delivery.  The best take away that I learned after having our C320 transported is to package your own boat for shipping.  Nobody, will do as good a job as the owner.  Even though I hired a competent yacht rigger and boat yard in SD, I still found that I had to oversee their work, and in some instances, rework some of their packaging of my boat and its components and rigging.
