A few years ago, I had the yard install an inspection/cleanout port on the 
top of our tank -- similar to one that came with our old 30-foot Cape Dory. 
I don't use it often but I find that it's good to have. For one thing, it's 
a good way to flush the tank with fresh water if you want to do that before 
haul-out. The port is about 5 inches in diameter.
