[C320-list] refinishing companionway stairs

My experience is that when any of the old finish is completely gone showing
the original (wood) surface, the only way to get a good new finish is to
completely remove the old, sand and maybe bleach. Depending on what kind of
a top finish you are using, it may be advisable to use a sealer before the
top coat. I plan on doing the steps this year and will completely remove
the old finish.

Don't know if others have had this problem but when I sanded my steps for
refinishing I went through the original finish (or very thin layer of veneer
I'm not sure which) in a couple of places with pretty light sanding. When I
varnished them the looked like they had measles-all blotchy and darker in
places. I had to remove all the old finish at that point and re varnish
them. Made an easy project into a real project. They, in the end, look great
but just be careful with the initial sanding.

That is correct.  One of my guys talked to a company out of NJ I think that
had bought the rights to manufacture.  Not sure why it has not resurfaced,
it performed well and got great reviews.
