[C320-list] Backstay adjuster.

I've read with interest the discussions on backstay adjusters. Some said that you can't really increase mast bend because of the mast head rig (I'm paraphrasing as per my understanding) but you can increase head stay tension. That being said, I'm wondering if the adjuster would work on an in-mast furling rig.  Has anyone tried it or have thoughts on the subject?
