Ted,
An alternative which I and others did was to seal the inspection port. If
my memory serves me right, which my wife says is always suspect, I used
"HERCULES, real-tuff, TEFLON PASTE THREAD SEALANT. I applied it quite a few
years back and haven't had a leak since. Keeping both the valves open
facilitates filling the water tanks as you only have to add the water to the
front tank.

There are two water holding tanks. One under the forward berth and one under
the aft berth.
When I fill the forward holding tank the water is pushed up through the
inspection plate of the aft holding tank.
How do you resolve? Have you put in a whale non-return value?
