[C320-list] Re varnishing the sole

Hi Chris,

I refinished mine in 2007. I should note that there wasn't anywhere that
the finish wasn't worn through. I used the material that I think was
originally used and that was "TARGET WB2025 Interior Matte Waterborne
Urethane Wood Finish". I don't know whether this is still available or a
replacement made for it, but I think I have enough left from the quart to do
it again. I removed my floor and took it home over winter. I used a very
fine sand paper to slightly abrade/scuff it and then I applied the finish
with a relatively expensive brush which I think made the job come out
especially nice. The brush was maybe 3-4" wide but very thin like maybe
1/4" or less. I put two coats on it and the results were very good.

There was a sole finishing article in the Mainsheet that another member,
Warren Updike, contributed and may be on the web site. The sole to his boat
had considerably more wear than mine. His approach was somewhat different.
Check the C320 website for the article. If it isn't there and you are in
the same situation with a "well worn" sole, then let me know and I might be
able to provide the article.

Subject: [C320-list] Re varnishing the sole

Hi
Does anyone have experience with this job and care to share any advice?
Should we attempt to do it in-situ or is there a good reason to/not-to strip
out the boards and do them in the shop at home?
What varnish did you use and has it worn well?
Many thanks in advance
