I did this once. I wouldn't recommend, although my experience was some 20 years ago and a previous boat. I take particular pride in the appearance of my boat and my ex-partner and I argued about almost each and every expense. Also he was inclined to DIY and I was inclined to use the local yard. Unless you anticipate paying some expenses versus arguing each point I would not suggest a partnership. One possible solution is to create a maintenance fund to which each contributes monthly, perhaps less arguments if there is available funds to cover such expenses.

Jerry,
I did years ago and it worked wonderfully. The key was that our partner was on the same page about the cut off between DIY projects and paid professional services, about new equipment and upgrades and we both always tried to leave the boat better than when we took it out. Finally we were good friends and cruised together often which helped to eliminate any use conflicts.
