Slight shift in the 3-blade Max-prop discussion. This issue and the correct answer (?) pops up every few years:
QUESTION: When shutting down the engine and moving under sail what is consider to be the best way to keep the
prop feathered and most importantly stop shaft rotation????

I have a Max-Prop on my 320 and one on a C&C 36 when I owned that boat. Based on advice from Yanmar I shift into
reverse and sail on, the shaft is locked and Yanmar was ok with the way the transmission gears are loaded.
I have tried the approach Gary suggested ( reverse back to neutral) , but find the shaft starts rotating when boat speed
went above 4 knts.

Hi Bruce,

When I bought my 320 in 2006, under the advice from several "old Salt"
friends who owned the Max Prop. I followed their advice and replaced
my three blade with the Max Prop. I could not be happier with it, My
boat backs straight, stops when asked, and goes quickly when I ask. when
shutting down the engine after sails set, a simple shift to reverse, and
then back to neutral, will feather the prop so no prop drag or prop spin
in neutral. I would not have a different prop.
