[C320-list] Rub rail

In our case, when the aluminum rail was sprung, it opened up slightly, so when I got the insert pushed in, I closed it up with the mallet. In your case, I would cut two narrow hardwood wedges just tall enough to get under the lip of the rail where it is not bent and using a dowel start driving them together under the crushed part… you would be amazed at the power of a basic ramp…

I need to replace a section of ours cosmetically because someone retied our lines and fender for a storm while we were away and she rubbed up against a large bolt on the finger pier…ugly but still functional…

Thanks,

Chris, thanks, but not sure what you mean about tightening up the rail with a mallet. Someone on this list suggested before, if I interpreted correctly, that a mallet might be used to pound out the places on the frame where it's bent in, but perhaps I misinterpreted because I tried that and the mallet was too big to get under the lip and bend it up. The aluminum is quite strong, whereas I thought it might be soft. I am able to pop the rail into the track by hand, even under the bent lip, although I've also tried using a mallet after that, but there didn't seem to be a need or matter once it was locked in on both sides. I will say that getting the rail back into the frame requires some dexterity because once I have gotten it almost all the way in, there is a bulge that I have to work the in slowly until the whole thing settles into place.

It has been long enough ago tha*t *I forgot, but the discussion reminded me...I too had the problem long ago and was able to tighten up the rail with a rubber mallet and the insert hasn't come out since.
