Hi, Graeme. Thank you for the detailed reply. I took the teak trim
piece off, and discovered the back side was also varnished but was much
darker than the front (normally exposed) side of the piece. I am
assuming this may be due to sun bleaching over 22 years of daily
exposure through the portlights and hatches. But your comments have
caused me to reconsider. So I bought a can of ZAR water-based clear
satin varnish - but got the same darker result when I applied it to the
sanded teak.
Did you use the Target water-based varnish or something else such as I
did?
