[C320-list] Windlass wiring

My hull, #366 has the cable wired to the back of battery 2 contact on the rotary switch on the electrical panel. It then routes through the push-on, pull-off circuit breaker (the one with the big red light!) and up behind the hull liner running along the port side wiring channel under the shelf that runs above the settee. (hidden behind the thin wooden strip) This cable goes to the windlass motor and the return (ground) cable goes through the foot switch back along the starboard side and directly to the negative post of battery number 2.

My assumption is that the idea is to minimise the number of connections as the windlass can draw very large mounts of current and every connection or join is a resistance to that and a voltage drop.

Although effectively “hot wired” to the battery, its safe as the breaker is never normally left set on. We always run the engine when using the windlass anyway because of the current draw.

Hope this helps

Graeme
