[C320-list] Throttle Cable stiff

Scott I've only had my compass off one time to lubricate the steering chain (yes, same to get to the throttle cable).  It was not difficult, but I was surprised that the whole pedestal got very "wobbly" when it was disassembled.  My concern was that the pedestal tubes moved around a lot and I was concerned about leaks at the base.
The next time I open the top of the pedestal (soon) I intend to try to tie some lines around the tubes extending to the stanchions or winches to try to help keep them more stable as I work inside it.
I'm interested if any others have comments/suggestions about this.

Doesn't look too difficult to do. (ignorance?)  I just want to be sure before I take anything apart around the pedestal housing.
Any input?
