[C320-list] Refrigerator Removal/Installation

A few months ago I replaced my cold machine in my 1995 C320 #246. It had the quick disconnect fittings which seal themselves when they are disconnected from the compressor unit. Since mine was quite a bit older than yours I suspect you will have the same. After removing the compressor and evaporator I took both to our local land fill and the workers there had me put it with a large pile of old refrigerators. I assume someone would be extracting the freon from all the units and feel confident I did the best thing possible under the circumstances.

I am a new C-320 owner and am working to replace my refrigerator over this
winter offseason. I have a question for those that have performed the
installation yourself. When removing the old unit, did you need to have
the refrigerant removed before disconnecting the condenser from the
evaporator? I believe the existing unit is original to the boat, which is
    a 1999 model year.

    Thanks for the advice.
