I made the mistake this Spring of updating the software on my Raymarine
instruments without fully reading the software change logs. I found only
afterwards that Raymarine decided in its wisdom to disable the ability
to enter autopilot Wind Vane mode by simultaneously pressing the AUTO
and STANDBY buttons. According to the change log for the P70 control
head (see
https://www.raymarine.eu/service-and-support/software-updates/autopilot/control-heads-all-variants.html)
this change was made in version 3.08 dated January 2019. (A moderator on
the Raymarine forums responded to a complaint about this by claiming
that the P70 never supported this function, which is patently false. See
https://forum.raymarine.com/showthread.php?tid=8668.)
I'm pretty annoyed at the arbitrary change in functionality. It's
possible to set up the control head so that the left hand shortcut
button will take you into Wind Vane mode, but then you can't use that
button for Track Mode, which I also commonly use and which has no other
shortcut. So I want my AUTO+STANDBY shortcut for Wind Vane mode back. I
put in a ticket to Raymarine but haven't heard back. Does anyone know
how to revert the software on the control head, assuming I can find the
older 3.07 version somewhere on my hard drive?
