[C320-list] Deadlight replacement

Hi all,

 

I am preparing to replace the aft starboard deadlight as a vertical crack
now extends across the entire window from top to bottom and another
horizontal crack is growing from the vertical crack.  No leaks that can been
seen yet, but it is probably just a matter of time before the entire thing
just falls apart.  I have printed out the instructions from Catalina from
the website, plus I also have an earlier version of the same thing.  I also
have Dave Hupe's Mainsheet article.  The Catalina instructions mention a 3M
black foam tape.  Does anyone know which foam tape?  They have many.  What
is the purpose of using it?  My original thought is that it ensures a gap
for the Dow 795 to fill to give a leak tight seal.  However, if it is double
sided it might help to hold the lens in place while a fixture or tape can be
installed for curing.
